The Benefits of Hemp Fabric

Hemp is one of the most versatile plants with a long list of benefits! Not only does it provide therapeutic properties, it also serves as a sustainable option for fabric production.
Here at Allume, we spent several months working on sourcing hemp material for our new "Cannabis Loves You" baseball cap. Let's get into some fun facts about this incredible fabric!
Hemp is the strongest plant fiber.
It's highly durable and resistant to abrasion and rot, which is why the material is often used for baggage, military uniforms and more. It only gets better with wear! More on that to come...
It has antimicrobial properties
Hemp contains compounds that can kill surface bacteria, including strains of staph. That means your clothes won't get mouldy or develop mildew if they're damp.
A great UV blocker
In addition to applying your SPF, a hat always provides an added layer of protection - especially if it's crafted with hemp! But how? Well, hemp naturally contains SPF of at least 15.
Hemp requires much less water than other materials
The depletion of natural resources - namely water - is a concern at top of mind. It's reassuring to know that hemp only uses only 1/20th the amount of water that cotton requires.
It gets softer with use
Often times, many types of materials become rough and pilled with regular use. On the flip side, hemp becomes softer! Modern processing innovations for the stalks has led to increased comfort, durability and lustre. Talk about bang for your buck.
